Shirley Jean Armstrong Stapleton, 49, of Charleston, SC, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003. All relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services at Pinecrest Baptist Church, Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2003 at Three O’clock. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Thursday from Eleven until One O’clock. Ms. Stapleton was a long time resident of Mt. Pleasant, SC and taught biology and physics at Wando High School for 9 years. She attended Pinecrest Baptist Church and Seacoast Church. She was born July 9, 1953 in Newport News, VA, to Carl and Juanita Armstrong. She was a Bethel High School graduate in 1971, Virginia Tech in 1975 with a BS and a Masters Degree in Education from the Citadel in Charleston, SC. She married Glen Allen Stapleton of Wise, VA., on December 13, 1975 and had four children. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Armstrong. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children- Jennifer, Amy, Cooper and Tucker. She is survived by her mother- Mrs. Juanita Brower and husband Chester; one brother- James Armstrong of Newport news, VA.; four sisters- Patricia Armstrong and Vickie Smith of Hampton, VA., Terry Divers and husband, Robert of Palacios, TX., and Cindy Zens and husband, Kim of Hayes, VA. She also leaves behind three aunts and one uncle- Hilah Autolino and Nick, Doris Walczak and Richard of Hampton, VA.; Karen Napier and Roger of Stuarts Draft, VA., and Ronnie Franklin of Newport New, VA., and one great aunt, Nora Hodges of Knoxville, TN. She will be sadly missed by her friends and students.
