Robert Allen Willis, 86, of Webster, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Paul Christy and Phyllis Glahn officiated. Formerly of Jackson County, Fla., he had lived in the Webster community for the past 22 years. He was a graduate of The Citadel and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, achieving the rank of Major. He was a retired cattleman and farmer, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Angus Association in Florida, where he served as the association’s president. Son of the late Robert Allen and Ida Willis, he was a member of Sylva First United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ray Britt Willis; one daughter, Anne Hudson of Peachtree City, Ga.; one son, Robert Allen Willis III of Port St. Joe, Fla.; one sister, Bethea Willis Patterson of Morehead City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sylva First United Methodist Church, or one’s favorite charity. Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
