RALEIGH, N.C. – William Joseph McGee Jr., formerly of Morristown, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Wake Medical Center. He was 65. Mr. McGee was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Rego Park, N.Y., to the late William Joseph McGee Sr. and Margaret Jane Fahy McGee. He was a graduate of Xavier High School where he was named to the New York Post All City Football Team. He also was named to the Tri-County and All Catholic High School football teams. He received 13 football scholarships to various colleges, and attended The Citadel, the military college of the South, in Charleston, S.C. Mr. McGee served in the Army as a lieutenant. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Fordham Law School in New York where he received his law degree. He was a partner in the law firm of Tompkins, McGuire and Wachenfeld in Newark. He relocated to Raleigh, N.C., upon retirement. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Mary; his children, Barbara M. Hurley and her husband Daniel H. of Garner, N.C., William Joseph III and his wife Frankie C. of Knightdale, N.C., Margaret M. Meberg and her husband Thomas A. of Wall Township and Thomas G. and his wife Kathleen A. of Long Valley; and his grandchildren, William Joseph B.J. McGee IV, Christopher McGee Hurley, Kelly Ann McGee, Emily Ann McGee, Thomas William Meberg and Kevin Joseph Meberg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 28, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 200 Hillsborough St., Raleigh. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today, June 27, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, N.C. 27545. Visitation will follow the rosary service.
