POWELL, RAYMOND H.J., JR. (Age 51) Of Norfolk, VA died September 18, 2003 at his home in Alexandria, VA. Ray was the son of Eleanor and the late Raymond H. J. Powell, Sr. of Norfolk. He was a member of Norfolk Catholic High School’s class of 1970. Ray graduated from the Citadel in 1974 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power School in 1975. Ray left the Navy as a Lieutenant in 1979 and worked in the nuclear power industry and the Department of Navy. He graduated from The George Washington University National Law Center in 1988 and became a patent attorney. Ray worked for Oliff & Berridge and Sughrue, Mion, Zinn, Macpeak & Seas in Washington, D.C. and Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd. in Korea before becoming a partner in his own successful patent law firm, Westerlund & Powell, P.C., in Alexandria, VA. Ray is survived by his daughter, Rachel Powell and predeceased by his stepson, Brandon Troppman. He is survived by his five sisters, Eileen Powell of Norfolk, VA, Ann Sharp and her husband, Larry of Alexandria, VA, Susan Tolbert, Betsy Powell of Norfolk, VA, Jane Yockey and her husband, Patrick of Norfolk, VA and his five brothers, Richard Powell and Michael Powell and his wife Christie all of Norfolk, Daniel Powell and his wife, Christina of Ann Arbor, MI, Stephen Powell and his wife, Meghan of Chesapeake, VA, Martin Powell and friend Jennifer DeHart of Richmond, VA. Ray is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews. A Christian wake service will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 7 p.m. at H.D. OLIVER FUNERAL APTS, INC., Norfolk Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Princess Anne Rd., Norfolk, followed by a burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Granby St., in Norfolk, VA.
