NORTH MYRTLE BEACH / William Leonard Beck, 81, of North Myrtle Beach, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born September 24, 1922 in Charlotte, N.C., a son of the late Waldo McRae and Kathleen Whitener Beck Murphy. Mr. Beck grew up on the beach where his mother owned the Kit Kat Hotel. He flew The Berlin Air Lift and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the US Air Force, where he was a pilot for 23 years of service. He attended the Citadel and later graduated from Oklahoma State University. He worked with the National Security Agency as an electrical engineer in Ft. Meade, Md. He was an avid golfer and a member of the VFW Post #10804 and American Legion Post #186. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Leta F. Beck of the home; two daughters, Candyce Burch of North Myrtle Beach and Robin Hobbs of Henderson, N.C.; a sister, Christine Reuther of Little River; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lee Funeral Home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.
