Nigels, McLeod Creighton Mac NIGELS, MCLEOD MAC CREIGHTON, 72, of 821 Colony Drive, husband of Anne Clary Nigels, died Friday, October 27, 2006 at his residence. Born in Charleston on November 6, 1933, he was the son of Frederick Eugene Nigels and Anne Creighton Nigels of Charleston. Mr. Nigels was a 1951 graduate of Charleston High School, and a 1955 Civil Engineering graduate of The Citadel. Upon graduation from The Citadel, he began his engineering career with the District Public Works, Sixth Naval District. In 1958 he left Charleston to begin work with a major pre-stress concrete manufacturer as a structural engineer at Dura-Stress, Inc., Leesburg, Florida, where he was quickly promoted to Chief Engineer in 1960 and Vice President in 1962. In 1973 he relocated to Charleston to accept the position as Vice President for Engineering and Sales with Pre Stress Concrete Co. In 1982 Mr. Nigels was named President of that company until 1992 when he accepted an offer as Chief Engineer of Coastal Engineering until 1994. Mr. Nigels joined Davis and Floyd, Inc. in the summer of 1994 serving as a structural engineer and later named Senior Associate with that firm. Some of Mr. Nigels most memorable projects with Davis and Floyd was the Warren Lasch Conservation Lab at the old Navy Yard and the raising of the Civil War submarine, the Hunley in which he took a strong personal and professional interest in the planning and design. In June 2002, Mr. Nigels was named Resident Engineer overseeing construction of Padgett-Thomas Barracks and later Law Barracks at The Citadel for Davis and Floyd. He described this as his dream job. Mr. Nigels contributions to the engineering field, the Citadel and to society are too numerous to list. He was an active member of Northbridge Baptist Church and was a true man of God. He is survived by his wife, Anne Clary Nigels, of 50 years; son, Scott M. Nigels of Charleston, his wife Cynthia Nigels and children Holly, Clary, Amanda, and Kelsy; son, Mark C. Nigels of Burlington, VT, his wife Lisa Nigels, their children Laurie, Kristen, Joey, and great grandchildren Cameron and Cole. àthat in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
