Wood passed quietly from this earthly life and into his eternal home on January 31, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Loving husband and devoted father Bob will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born August 5, 1929 in Rocky Mount North Carolina. He graduated from the Citadel College. He proudly served his country in Japan, and was discharged as a Captain from the US Air Force Reserve. In 1964 Bob arrived in Dallas with his wife and two daughters as Assistant Regional Director for the Office of Civil Rights. He retired as Deputy Regional Director of Medicaid from the Health and Human Services department in 1985. He served on numerous board of directors for various organizations including the HEW’s Employee Association, Dallas Federal Credit Union, Retired Federal Employees, and Metrocrest Communities Services. He volunteered for numerous activities, was an avid gardener and animal lover and actively involved in the Dallas County Master Gardeners. Among his many other passions was the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and opera. Left behind to treasure his memory are his devoted wife of 52 years, Hulda Hawkins Wood, daughters, Beth, and Dawn and son-in-laws, Dwayne Violet and Tom Carson, sister and brother in law Rheta and Seymour Holt, and brother Wallace Wood. Visitation 10am to service time Monday. Funeral Service is 1pm Monday North Dallas Funeral Home. Interment to follow at DFW National Cemetery.
