MURREY Matthew John Murrey, Jr., 82, passed away October 31, 2002. The world is saddened to lose a solidly good, decent, and caring man, husband and father. A 3rd generation resident of Jacksonville, Matt was born January 21, 1920 and lived in his Riverside home for over 80 years. He attended St. Pauls School of which he was a devoted member of the Catholic parish his entire life. He attended Bolles School and graduated from Riverside Academy. He earned his Bachelors degree from the Citadel in 1943. Matt served in the Army during WWII in both Germany and the Pacific. He returned to Jacksonville to care for his father and married Jacksonville resident, Margaret Julia Sares. Together they had 4 children and recently celebrated 48 years of a happy and stable marriage, which allowed them to share their love with each other and others in the community. Matt led an active life camping and bike riding into this last year of his life. He was an Eucharistic minister, an usher at St. Pauls, and a member the Elks Club and the Holy Name Society. Throughout his life he gave to others. He contributed to many charitable causes and was always willing to give aid to individuals, monies for tuition, food and he even opened his home at times for those in need. Education was important to Matt and much of his energy went to ensuring his children had access to educational opportunities. His is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; son, Matthew John Murrey, III (Carol Inskeep) of Champagne Urbana, IL; daughters, Mary M. Murrey (Michael Ittmann) of Houston, TX, Kathleen Ruth Thompson (Franklin) of Nassau, Bahamas, and Nancy Murrey of Jacksonville; brother, Sam Murrey (Mary Jane) of Hermosa, SD; grandchildren, Jackson & Morgan Murrey-Ittmann, Donghae, Zoe, & Kwangil Thompson, and Silas & Gabriel Inskeep-Murrey; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, November 4th, at St. Pauls Catholic Church (2609 Park St.), with Fr. James Corry as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday with a Rosary at 7 PM at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 729 S.
