MAHONEY, John John Joseph J.J. Mahoney III, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at a local hospital. A man of many talents, J.J. was an entrepreneur, business consultant, deacon, and college professor. Born November 9, 1921 in Chattanooga, TN, he served in the US Army, was a graduate of the Citadel and earned his MBA from Georgia Tech. His many affiliations included the Hibernian Society, Carolina Yacht Club, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, S.C. Policy Council, the Philadelphia Society, and the Heritage Foundation. J.J. was a member of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church on Sullivan’s Island where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, May 3, 2005. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends Monday, May 2, 2005 from 5:00-7:00P.M. with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Porcher Mahoney. He is survived by nieces and nephews: James A. Mahoney, Jr. and his wife Linda, Willis Wharf, VA., Peter J. Mahoney, and Kathleen Mahoney, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Helen Bamberg and her husband Hamond of Awendaw, SC, John J. Mahoney II and his wife Heidi, Mt. Pleasant, SC, Dorothy Porcher Amis and her husband Randy of PA; seven great nephews and one great niece. Memorials may be made to Mother Teresa’s Order 335 East 145th Street, Bronx, NY 10451.
