Lt. Col. John Arthur Scott, USMC (Ret), 75, of Lexington, died July 2, 2003 at home after a long illness. Born October 4, 1927 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and raised in Baltimore, MD, he was a 1952 graduate of The Citadel. He was a 30 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Korea and Vietnam. He also worked for 20 years as an engineer for the city of Lexington. Among his survivors are his devoted wife of 47 years, Harriet; two sons: Jonathan and wife Wanda of Lexington, Davidson and Nancy of Stafford; two daughters: Elizabeth Blair and husband Mitchell of Chagrin Falls, OH; Emily Fraser and husband John of Cockermouth, England; 7 grandchildren and a sister, Phyllis. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. C. Thomas McHenry, Jr. officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. There was no visitation at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA. 24450. The Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington is handling the arrangements.
