Lauriston Hardin Blythe, 87, died April 12, 2003. Born September 13, 1915, in Greenville, he was the son of the late Colonel Edgeworth Montague Blythe (for whom Blythe Academy was named) and Anna Hooe Hardin. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Susan Nicholson Blythe; three daughters, Susan (Tudie) Blythe Edmonds, of Greensboro, N.C., Anne Blythe Meriwether, of Columbia, and Lauriston (Lauri) Blythe Furse of Manning; as well as four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He attended the public schools in Greenville and graduated from the Citadel in 1936. Upon graduation, he joined Southern Bell and was associated with the company for 45 years. He served in the U.S. Army for five years during World War II and retired with the rank of Major. Mr. Blythe was a communicant and former vestryman of Christ Episcopal Church and former Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was a member and past president of the Cotillion Club; a member of the Greenville Country Club; member and past president of the Poinsett Club; and member and past president of the Greenville County Historical Society. He was a former Director and Chairman of the Board of the S.C. TELCO Federal Credit Union, and a member and past president of the Blue Ridge Council of Telephone Pioneers. Mr. Blythe was a member of, and served on the Board of the St. Andrews Society. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edgeworth Montague , Jr. and Bernard Hooe Blythe. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. Robert S. Dannals officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
