Julius F. Haley COLUMBIA – The Reverend Julius French Haley, 90, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Highlands, North Carolina, husband of the late Cain Calmes Haley, died Saturday, April 7. Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Julius C. and Marie French Haley. He graduated from The Citadel in 1939, and served as an officer in the Artillery before and during World War II. After the war, he operated the J.C. Haley Furniture Company in Greenville until 1960, when he moved to Sewanee, Tennessee, where he attended St. Luke’s Seminary. Ordained in 1962, he moved to Columbia and served The Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church for eleven years. In 1973, he joined the staff of Trinity Cathedral Parish. In 1978 he served the Church of the Good Shepherd as interim rector for a short time. He served as secretary of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina for a short while. From 1994 until 1996, he was registrar for the Diocese of Upper South. He also served on the Porter Gaud Board of Trustees for seven years and on the Heathwood Hall Board for three years. Surviving are daughters, Nade Haley of Brooklyn, New York, and Cain Calmes Haley of Highlands, North Carolina; son Julius French Haley, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; one grandchild, Julius French Haley III, of Charleston, South Carolina; and one great-grandchild, Christopher Bratton Haley of Charleston, South Carolina; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville, South Carolina on Wednesday, April 11, at 12 noon. Burial will be in the churchyard at Christ Church.
