JOHNSTON, S.C.- John Sawyer Edwards, Sr., age 88, died peacefully at home. Services will be held Wednesday, July 28, at 4 p.m. at Johnston First Baptist Church with interment to follow in Mt. of Olives Cemetery. The family is at the residence and friends are invited to visit there, 808 Calhoun St., Johnston, S.C. 29832. Memorials may be made to Johnston First Baptist Church, 700 Church ST., Johnston, S.C. 29832. Mr. Edwards, a native of Johnston, died Sunday, July 25, 2004. He was a son of the late Elzie Bland ‘B’ and Beulah Sawyer Edwards. He was a member of the Citadel Class of 1938, retired President of Edwards Oil Co. and a past President of South Carolina Petroleum Marketers Association. Mr. Edwards was a charter member of the Johnston Lions Club, Jaycees, Ridge Fishing Club and a 60 years Mason in Kadosh Lodge 181. He was a life-long member of Johnston First Baptist Church serving his Lord as Deacon, SS Teacher, Treasurer and devoted Choir Member. Mr. Edwards was a most loved and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Vivian Proctor Edwards; son and daughter-in-law, John S. Edwards, Jr. and Chere’; daughter and son-in-law, Becky E. Hash and Tom; son, Dr. William B. Edwards and fiancee, Donna Macaleer; brother, Dr. Preston Edwards and wife, Faye; sister-in-law, Jewell C. Edwards; grandchildren, John S. Edwards III ‘Tad’ and wife, Keri, Anna Hash Studer and husband, Scott, Leslie E. Weikle and husband, Scott, Tommy F. and John G. Hash; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Garrett Studer and Lillian Weikle and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine E. Morgan and brother, E. Forrest Edwards.
