John Edward Poindexter, USMC (Ret.), 76, of Summerville, husband of Lois Dent Poindexter, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 o’clock Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville. Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA with Full Military Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 o’clock this evening. Lt. Col. Poindexter, USMC (Ret) was born September 11, 1931 in Mt. Airy, NC, son of the late John Rufus Poindexter and Grace Faircloth Warrick Poindexter. He graduated from Burlington High School, was a 1953 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was Head Cheerleader. He was President and organizer of the first Semper Fidelis Society in the United States. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and retired as Lt. Col. from the United States Marine Corp. He received his Masters in Education from the Citadel. Survivors, including his wife Lois, are one daughter; Amy Poindexter Efland, her husband Peter Lind Efland, his daughter Amanda Gail Efland, all of Mebane, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
