Jeremiah Bernard Duffy, age 71, of Valparaiso, Fla., died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, surrounded by those he loved. Jerry, as he was known to friends and family, was born March 30, 1935, to John J. and Mary (McMahon) Duffy in Charleston, S.C., where he graduated from Bishop England High School in 1953. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and graduated from the Citadel in 1959. Jerry was an active and generous member in many Councils of the Knights of Columbus, including Council 7667 in Niceville, Fla., where he recently retired from his post as financial secretary. He also served in many offices in councils in Charleston, Florence, and Aiken, S.C. Jerry will be greatly missed by Barbara (McCarthy) Duffy, his beloved wife of 50 years; and his four daughters and their partners, Kelly and James P. McClymer of Orono, Maine, Karen and Rosemary Duffy-Greslo of Chicago, Karla and Frank Simei of Lansdowne, Va., and Kecia Duffy-Wei and Alan Wei of San Francisco. In addition, he was a loving grandfather to two granddaughters, Kristen Mc-Clymer and Kate Duffy-Greslo; and five grandsons, Andrew and Brendan McClymer, and Thomas, Christopher and Philip Simei. He is survived by his brother, John J. Duffy and sister-in-law Marcia Duffy of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Ann (Duffy) Mitchum of Charleston; and a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (Duffy) and Gene F. DiBiase of Jacksonville, Fla.; and sister-in law, Kay and John Toner. He was predeceased by his brother, Monsignor Thomas R. Duffy; and his brother-in-law, William Mitchum. The family wishes to thank Emerald Coast Cancer Center doctors and nursing staff for the wonderful care they provided. A wake will be held on Friday at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. , with a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be heard on Saturday, May 13, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Niceville, at 9:30 a.m. with Father Daniel Butler and Father Mathew Chandrankunnel officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. There will also be a memorial service on June 10 in Charleston.
