HARTSIG Robert R. Hartsig, age 80, of Trumbull, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Hartsig was born on June 6, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pa. and was the son of Redid and Edna Hartsig. He was a Westport resident for 34 years before moving to Stamford in 1989 and to Trumbull in 1997. Mr Hartsig grew up in West Hartford and as a youth he was very active in scouting. At the age of 15, he made eagle scout, and served as a Jounior Assistant Scoutmaster. He was a graduate of the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina and received a MBA degree from the Wharton School of Business, and the University of Pennsylvania in 1949. Mr. Hartsig held marketing and sales management positions with Burroughs Corp. and General Electric information System, before retiring from General Electric in 1982. Mr. Hartsig was an Air Corps. veteran of World War II and retired as Lt. Col. in the Air Force Reserve. Mr. Hartsig and his family moved to Westport in 1955 and he was active in Westport for many years. He served two terms on the R.T.M. and eight years on the Westport Board of Finance as Vice-chairman and Chairman. Mr. Hartsig was president of the Wesport Veterans Council and was the Master of Ceremonies for both the Memorial Day and Veteran Day services for more than 20 years. He was Vice-commander of American Legion Post 63 and a member of the V.F.W. post 399 in Westport. Mr. Hartsig was an instructor for the AARP 55 Alive Driving Course for 12 years and had more than 3000 seniors complete his classes. He was also a member of the Ys Men of Westport and was Treasurer of the a singing group associated with the Ys Men. Mrs. Hartsig is survived by four daughters, Susan II. Lek of New York City, Roberta A. Ramik of Margate of Fla., Virginia C. Damio of Trumbull and Nancy L. Dennert of Trumbull; one stepson, Michael Scatamacchia of Norwalk; one stepdaughter, Janet Mitchell of Trumbull; eight grandchildren, Robin, Renae and Roxanne Ramik of Margate, Fla., David and Chris Damio of Trumbull, Charles Lek of New York City, and Matthew and Rachel Dennert of Trumbull; and four step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Malanoski Hartsig; and one brother, Richard D. Hartsig of Auburn, N.Y. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, at 2 p.m. at the Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the V.F.W.
