Dr. William Smith Bradley, Jr. — Age 85, of Gulf Shores, AL, died Saturday, January 4, 2003 after a long and valiant fight against cancer. Dr. Bradley was born in Greenville, S.C. on May 5, 1917. He was the son of the late William Smith Bradley and the late Leila Roe Bradley. He was a retired urologist, Master Mason and an active member of First Presbyterian Church. After graduating from the Citadel and Tulane University Medical School, he joined the Army and served at Normandy and other campaigns during World War II where he earned the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars. Dr. Bradley was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomat of American Board of Urology, member of American Medical Association, Southeastern Section of American Urology Association, Past Chief of Staff at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, member of staff of both EMC and Colbert County hospitals. While living and practicing in Florence, AL at the Florence Clinic for 29 years, he also was a member and Past President of the Exchange Club, member of Chamber of Commerce, and Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club. Surviving are his wife, Anna Keith Powers Bradley of Gulf Shores; son, William S. Bradley, III and wife, Carolyn Bradley of Navarre, Florida; daughter, Bonita Bradley of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; daughter, Leila Jane Conroy and husband, Jerome Conroy of Ash Grove, Missouri; nephew, Jimmie Jones and wife, Nancy Jones of Greenville, S.C; two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Bentley, and wife, Betty T. Bradley, mother of his children. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Gulf Shores. Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 9, 2003 at 11 a.m. at White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 256, Gulf Shores, AL 36547 or to American Cancer Society.
