Dr. William Elliott Barfield Sr., 82, entered into rest Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at the residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2003 in Union Point, at Woodville Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Daniel and Rev. Alan Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Dr. Barfield was born in Atlanta, and was a WW II veteran having served in the Army Medical Corp. He was a graduate of the Citadel in 1942, and Emory University Medical School in 1946. Dr. Barfield was a former member of the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia. He served as an Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and of the South Atlantic Association of Ob/Gyn, and the Endocrine Society. Dr. Barfield went on to have a private practice that spanned 50 years. He was also a member of the Day Spring Baptist Church and the Rotary Club of Augusta, he was the past President of the Richmond County Medical Society and the State Ob/Gyn Society. Dr. Barfield was loved and admired by many and adored by his wife and children. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Mrs. Mary Durham Barfield, two sons; Dr. William E. Barfield Jr. and his wife Michele, Dr. Robert Durham Barfield and his wife Diane; three daughters, Elizabeth Lynn Childers and her husband Terry, Lucia Anne Small and her husband John, and Carol Boyd Woodall and her husband Jim; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, June 25, 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers
