Douglas C. Turley, Jr. April 23, 1931 – September 10, 2002 COLUMBUS, GA The Reverend Douglas C. Turley, Jr. died on Tuesday, September 10, 2002. A celebration of the Holy Eucharist in his memory will be observed at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Columbus, GA on Friday, September 13, 2002 at 11:00 A.M., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Macon Road. Father Turley was born in Lakeland, FL on April 23, 1931, the only son of Dorothy Hawkins Turley and Douglas C. Turley, Sr. He was a graduate of Decatur Boy’s High School; The Citadel; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; and The School of Theology, University of the South. Prior to becoming an Episcopal Priest, Father Turley served as an Infantry Officer during the Korean Conflict. Most of his ministry was spent as a Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education and Pastoral Counselor. During the final years of his ministry he served as a Priest Associate at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Father Turley is survived by his soul mate and wife, Alice Hughes Turley; three sons, Douglas C. Turley, III, Sam A. Alex Mills, III, and James Harrison Morgan; five daughters, Wendelyn Wendy Turley, Paula Diane McGehee, Robin Elaine Longinow, Mary Alexis Turley, and Martha Luciel Lucy Morgan. In lieu of flowers, friends and colleagues are invited to make donations to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Turley Ministries, 2100 Hilton Avenue, Columbus, GA 31906 or Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
