COLUMBIA – Services for Robert Moorman, III, who died Wednesday, March 25, 2003, are scheduled at Trinity Cathedral for Friday at 11 a.m., followed by interment in the churchyard. Born in Columbia, August 24, 1922, son of Robert Moorman, Jr. and Blanche Rowlette Moorman, he attended the city schools and graduated from The Citadel in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a Lieutenant of Field Artillery. Mr. Moorman received a Masters Degree from Columbia University and taught at Georgia Southern College and the University of Florida. As one of the first Fulbright Scholars from the University of South Carolina, he studied for a year in France at the University of Grenoble. He married the former Bertha Wilson of Darlington in 1948 and they lived in France and Germany from 1950 to 1958. In Germany, he was an advisor with the U.S. Army Education Program. On their return to Columbia in 1958, Mr. Moorman became one of the pioneer Travel Agents in South Carolina; along with his Sweeny Travel Bureau here in Columbia there were only three other Travel Agencies in the State one each in Charleston, Greenville, and Spartanburg. In 1965, he sold the agency to Bankers Trust of South Carolina and over the years expanded the bank s travel offices to Anderson, Greenville, and Greenwood. Mr. Moorman served on the Board of Bank Travel Agencies of America in 1967-68. He retired from Bankers Trust in 1968 as a Senior Vice-President. He was for many years Secretary/Treasurer of the Columbia Cotillion Club and later President. He was a member of the Palmetto Club, Pine Tree Hunt Club, Forest Lake Club and the Summit Club. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, his son, Robert Wardlaw Moorman of Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis Kennemur (Mary) of Columbia and Mrs. Edward Pritchard, III (Bowe) of Charleston; four grandchildren and his brother, John H.
