COLQUITT 1st. Lt. Dan Thomas Malcom Jr., 25, of Colquitt died Wednesday, November 10, 2004. Lt. Dan Malcom, Jr. was killed as the Marines made their way into Fallujah, Iraq. The funeral service will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with full military honors. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Tuesday, November 23, 2004. The Rev. Bobby Whitacker will officiate. Born April 5, 1979, he was a United States Marine and a member of Mother’s Home Free Will Baptist Church. Dan was a 1997 graduate of Miller County High School. He was a member of the Beta Club, the Quiz Bowl, the MCHS band, the basketball and baseball team for four years. He was also a member of the Math Team, the Chess Club, the Spanish Club and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Dan was the vice-president of his junior class and President of his senior class. He received the UGA Certificate of Merit, Presbyterian College Fellowship Award, Science award, Social Science award, English award, Spanish award, Academic Excellence, and Marine Corps NROTC Scholarship award recipient. After high school graduation, he attended the Citadel and was awarded his 2nd Lt. Rank in the USMC. He was a platoon leader in the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, A Company. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.
