BURR D. HUGHES Jr., 77, of Memphis, retired insurance agent for Equitable Insurance Companies of Iowa, died Saturday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Mass will be said at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Louis Catholic Church, where he was a communicant, with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. He was a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and a charter member of their Top of the Table program, the Memphis Estate Planning Council, president of the Memphis CLU chapter, was Equitable Hall of Honor agent in 1972, a World War II Army veteran, a former member of Kiwanis and The Committee of 100 for the FedEx St. Jude Classic golf tournament, and served on the boards of Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and the Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Hughes, the husband of Sue Cheek Smith Hughes for 52 years, also leaves two daughters, Susan Hoehn of San Diego and Frazer Hendrick of Haymarket, Va.; a son, Burr Hughes III of Memphis; three sisters, Agnes Dixon of Atlanta, Yancey Daniel of Columbia, S.C., and Betty Kaldenbaugh of Tucson, Ariz., and 10 grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Madonna Learning Center or the charity of the donor’s choice.
