BROWN, Douglas Entered into eternal rest at his residence on Thursday, January 29, 2004, Douglas Ray Brown, husband of Marjorie Chinnis Brown, of Charleston. He was born in Greensboro, N.C., the son of Charles Clyde Brown and Hattie Meddie Ray Brown on Wednesday, June 29, 1921. Mr. Brown was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1942, and was a member of the Summerall Guard. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII, took part in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day and was awarded the Bronze Star. After WWII he left the Army after attaining the rank of Captain, became a member of the United States Army Reserves and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Colonel. Mr. Brown was a member of the Omar Shrine Temple and served as Deacon and Treasurer at the Memorial Baptist Church in Ravenel. He was a Supervisor Accountant at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for many years until retirement. Mr. Brown was predeceased by a brother, Charles Alton Brown and is survived by his wife Marjorie Chinnis Brown of Charleston, two daughters, Beverly Brown Dunbar and her husband Pat of Chapin, S.C., Linda Brown Scott and her husband Danny of Charleston, four grandchildren, Celeste Scott Blinston and her husband Gregg, Daniel Douglas Scott, Patrick Dunbar, II, and Daniel H. Dunbar. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ray Brown are invited to attend his funeral service at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the Memorial Baptist Church, Ravenel, S.C. Burial will be in the Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the JAMES A. MCALISTER FUNERAL HOME, 1620 SAVANNAH HWY., this Friday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Memorial Baptist Church, 6948 Martin St., Ravenel, S.C. 29470.
