BLACK, Eugene WALTERBORO – Mr. Eugene W. Gene Black of 515 Center Street in Walterboro, died Thursday at his residence. He was 74. Mr. Black was born in Walterboro, May 15, 1931; a son of the late Eugene Williams Black, Sr. and Louise Wells Black. He was a 1952 graduate of The Citadel. After his graduation, he entered the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and served during the Korean War. Mr. Black was a former distributor for Gulf Oil Company in Walterboro and was also the owner of Black’s Package Shop. He served several terms as Walterboro City Councilman from the mid 1960’s through the late 1970’s. Mr. Black was a member of St. Jude’s Episcopal Church. Survivors include one son, Greg Black of Charleston and one daughter, Anne Black Edson and her husband Fred of West Palm Beach, FL. There are two granddaughters, Rebecca and Isabelle Edson. He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene W. Black, III. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in Live Oak Cemetery.
