BERRY, JR., Thomas Thomas Olin Berry, Jr., 77, of 305 Bryant Street, St. George, died peacefully at his residence Wednesday January 25, 2006. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 at the home. Funeral services will be held in the St. George United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Washington Belangia officiating at 11:00 a.m. Friday. Entombment will follow in the St. George Cemetery. Mr. Berry was born May 2, 1928 in St. George, a son of Thomas Olin Berry and Imil Smoak Berry and was the widower of Yvonne Hutto Berry. He was a graduate of St. George High School, The Citadel, and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was a Pilot in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and served as a Captain in the famed 6148th Tactical Control Squadron, 6147th Group, better known as the Mosquitoes . He was a member of the famed Summerall Guards at The Citadel. He was an Attorney in St. George for 46 years until his retirement in 2002. He served as the St. George Town Attorney for a number of years, acted as Assistant Solicitor for the 1st Judicial District, and served as an attorney for the Southern Railway in past years. He has been a member of the St. George United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board and Finance Committee, and was a longtime member of the Men’s Bible Class, where he served in a number of official capacities, including teacher and Secretary, the American Legion Post 105 (Past Commander), St. George Businessmen’s Club, Mason Harmony Lodge (former Grand Master), and the Omar Shrine Temple and Accepted Order of the Nobel Mystic Shrine Provost Guards. He served as a Trustee of Indian Field Campground for many years. He also served on the Board of Directors for Citizens & Southern Bank, now First Citizens Bank. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law; Joan and Stephen Nassar, Melbourne, FL; Tommi Lin and Kevin Garrick, St. George; Kay and Otis Henry, Edisto Beach; Judy and Jim Sedorovich, St. George; Sons and daughter-in-laws Rick and Louanne Heath, St. George; Mike and Susan Heath, Summerville. Sisters and their husbands, Dot and Wes Baasen, Cullman, AL; Miriam and Cecil Jordan, St. George; Virginia and John Tompkins, Chapel Hill, NC. Grandchildren, Abigail and Katie Nassar, Gracie, John Thomas, and Sydney Garrick, Candace (Kirby) and Craig Dellinger, Angie and Matthew Byrd, Kristen Jennings, Kyle and Harrison Heath.. Step-grandchildren, Jennifer Burt, Shannon Bowers, and Dusty Henry, and step great grandchildren, Brandon Hartley and Chandler Burt.
