BELMONT — Dr. Rufus Jackson Davis, 80, of 32 Lake Drive, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., October 2, 2002 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Clover, South Carolina. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center immediately following the service. Born April 9, 1922, he was the son of the late Senator Harold Kendrick Davis and Hester Jackson Davis. He was a member, former deacon, and ruling elder of the Cramerton Presbyterian Church for 50 years. Dr. Davis was a 1943 graduate of The Citadel and graduated the Medical University of South Carolina in 1946. During the WWII Berlin Air Lift , he served as a Captain in the US Army Air Corps. Dr. Davis began his career as General Practitioner in 1951 at the Cramerton Clinic where he remained in private practice for 23 years.. Following his private practice, Dr. Davis was named the Director of Outpatient Services for the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina where he served for 15 years. In 1989 Dr. Davis was named and served as the Medical Director for the Hyland Plasma Center in Charlotte, North Carolina until his retirement in 1995. Dr. Davis was a member of the Gaston County and North Carolina Medical Societies, The Citadel Brigadier Club, Kiwanis Club, VFW Sam Alton Post #6, Cramerton Senior Citizens, and The Gideons. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Martha Adams Davis; daughter, Susan Jackson Davis Gibson of Columbia, SC; sons, John Mark Davis of Belmont, NC and Stephen Jeffrey Davis of Inman, SC; sisters, Evelyn Davis Boyd and her husband Paul Neil Boyd of Clover, SC; Grace Davis Alexander of Clover, SC; grandchildren, Charlotte Adams Gibson and William Davis Gibson of Columbia, SC; Angela Celene McMillan of Belmont, NC; Drew Tyler Rhinehart of Belmont, NC; Samuel Carson Rhinehart of Kings Mountain, NC; and Tasha Darshan Davis of Belmont, NC; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dr. Davis was predeceased by his daughter, Martha Ann Davis Rhinehart. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Cramerton Presbyterian Church, 152 Eighth Avenue, Cramerton, North Carolina 28032. The family of Dr. Davis wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks James C. Boyd, M.D.; Roger E. Smith, M.D. as well as the doctors and health care professionals of the Presbyterian Hospital. M.L.
