ALLENDALE – Richard Hamilton Mixson Sr., 78, of Allendale, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Family will accept visitors at Smith-Rhoden Funeral Home Wednesday, March 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax, S.C. Graveside services will follow in Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale. Richard was born October 4, 1927, in Allendale. He was a son of the late Nonnie Dowling Mixson and Mack Mixson. Richard was a graduate of The Citadel Military Academy and served in the United States Army. He was owner of Mixson Oil Company and served in the community throughout his life. Richard served as the Mayor of Allendale from 1960 to 1966, served on the Allendale Town Council, was a member of Allendale Lions Club and served on the Allendale County Hospital Board for 22 years. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church Council. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Christina Mixson; 3 sons, Richard Mixson Jr. of Brunson, Robert Mixson of Allendale and David Mixson of Beaufort; brother, Edward Mixson of Bluffton; sister, Helen Swofford of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three grandsons and one granddaughter.
