ALBANY ù Mr. Robert Flournoy Truitt, 84, of Albany, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2006. Mr. Truitt was born in LaGrange, Georgia on May 19, 1922, to the late Forrest Holt Truitt and Lucite Flournoy Truitt. Upon graduation from LaGrange High School in 1939, he attended The Citadel until 1943 (the class of ’44), at which time he was called upon to serve his country during World War II. Mr. Truitt served with the 333rd Infantry Regiment of the 84th Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations and retired with the rank of Major. For his meritorious service, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, ETO Campaign Ribbon with three combat stars, and the Bronze Star with Cluster. Following his tour of duty, Mr. Truitt returned to LaGrange and married Emily Quinn Truitt, his wife of 49 years, who predeceased him in 1995. Mr. Truitt attended Auburn University and graduated in 1948 with a B.S. degree in business. While at Auburn, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Upon his graduation from Auburn, Mr. Truitt moved to Albany, Georgia, where he was associated with the Albany Broadcasting Company for 50 years. Mr. Truitt and his family were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church. While a member, he was president of the Fellowship Class and also served as an usher for in excess of 50 years. As well, Mr. Truitt was a past president of the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club, where he was a member since 1953. Mr. Truitt is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Truitt of Albany; his son, Robert F. Truitt, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Cynthia M. Truitt of Vail, Colorado; his daughter, Ellen T. Savage of Atlanta, Georgia; and his son, Forrest H. Truitt, II and daughter-in-law, Virginia G. Truitt of Martinsville, Virginia; his stepson Lewis W. English and wife, Elaine B. English of Peachtree City, Georgia; and his stepson, William S. English, Jr. and wife, Martha R. English of Roswell, Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three step grandchildren. Mr. Truitt was predeceased by his brother, Forrest H. Truitt, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church with burial services to follow at 4 PM in LaGrange, Georgia at Shadow Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Mike A. McAfee and Dr. Donald M. Kea will officiate. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.0.
