A memorial service for John McDonald Don Wray, 79, will be held Saturday, at 11:30 a.m. at Shandon Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to Shandon Presbyterian Church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Wray died Wednesday, June 1, 2005. Born in Humboldt, TN, he was the son of the late Lyman P. and Clara Horner Wray. A graduate of the Citadel, he served in the US Army during WWII. He had a 42 year career in public service, with most dedicated to local government, retiring as Executive Director of the Municipal Association of South Carolina. He was former City Manager of Beaufort, S.C. and Waycross, GA. He also served as Executive Secretary of the Southern Municipal Conference. He was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church and Wildewood Country Club. Surviving are his wife, Veronica Miller Wray; sons and daughters-in-law, Cal and Janet Wray of Lawrenceville, GA; Doug and Marti Wray of St. Augustine, FL; and Lyman and Leisa Wray of Decatur, GA; and 10 grandchildren: Cathryn Martin, Jonathan, Michael, Stephen, Philip, Lauren, Taylor, McKenzie, Mason, and Allison Wray.
