Harvie Catoe, 89, from Camden, SC, died on the snowy morning of Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Harvie worked at Hermitage Mill of Camden in his early adulthood, served in the US Navy during WWII, graduated from The Citadel, retired as Civil Engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority, was a long-time member of the Church of God, and was a life-long gardener and enjoyed sharing his harvest with family and friends. Harvie Catoe was born October 15, 1924 in Cassatt, SC, the son of the late Ola Fanny Hicks Catoe and Hollis Lewis Catoe. He is survived by his daughter: Sonja Catoe of Portland OR, son: Alan Russell Catoe of Santa Cruz CA, granddaughter: Jasmin Catoe-Ganahl of Portland OR, great-granddaughters: Josephine and Henrietta, sisters: Janet Catoe Rogers and Emmaleen Catoe Lucas, both of Camden, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr Catoe, a widower, was also predeceased by Barbara D. Catoe (d.2003),his wife of 28 years, and Alverta Rogers Catoe (d.1974), his first wife of 26 years. Heartfelt thanks go out from Mr Catoe’s family to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at Kershaw Health Medical Center for their great care and efforts, and to his Pastor, Don Waterhouse, and friends of the Church of God. Mr Catoe had prearranged to be cremated at Kornegay Funeral Home in Camden. There will be a Memorial Service planned for later in the Spring.
