Ben H. Martin, Jr., of Easley, died Nov. 3, 2013. Ben Hamilton Martin, Jr., was born August 10, 1928 to the late Ben Hamilton and Mary Owens Martin. He graduated from Easley High School in 1945 and graduated from the Citadel in 1949 with a degree in Civil Engineering where he was a member of The Summerall Guards. Mr. Martin was an army veteran having served as Captain in the US Army from 1951-1953. He also served from September 1961 until March 1962. Mr. Martin was owner of Pickens County Concrete Company. He was a Licensed Civil Engineer and designed many bridges and also built bridges for the SC Highway Department. Mr. Martin was a former Boy Scout leader of a troop in Charleston and also Troop 37 in Easley. He was a lifelong member of Easley Presbyterain Church where he has been very active. He was a former Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Deacon, Elder and Trustee. Mr. Martin belonged to the Men’s Bible Study Group. He had been a member of the Easley Rotary Club since 1957 and also was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Samiel Jones Martin; a daughter, Ellen M. Musco (Gabe); three sons, Charles Martin, Robert Martin and Ben H. Martin, III (Rachel); seven grandchildren, Julia Fielding, Alesha Martin, Kelly Paluska, Sammy Martin, Lessie Musco, Ivan Martin and Ida Lynne Martin; and a sister, Dolly Harris. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jean Parrish. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Easley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Seel and Rev. Christy Gravely officiating. Private committal services will take place at Robinson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the parlor of the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials amy be made to Easley Presbyterian Church, 200 South First Street, Easley, SC 29640 or to Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1988, Easley, SC 29641.
