Senior Chief Donald George Kinne, Jr., USN (Ret.) of Charleston, South Carolina and Jasper, Georgia, widower of Eloise Baylor Kinne, passed peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 in the Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 2:00 pm. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends Saturday in the church sanctuary from 12:30 until 1:30 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel (3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy.) Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 24, 1927 he was the son of May and Donald G. Kinne, Sr. Mr. Kinne was a 1946 graduate of Chicora High School and a 1954 graduate of the Citadel, a veteran student who served in the U.S. Navy. He then spent 40 years of gracious service to his country in the Navy Reserves. He retired from the SupShip division at the Charleston Naval Base. Mr. Kinne had an extreme love of music which began in the 1930s when he was an every Saturday performer on the Mickey Mouse Club at the Palmetto Theater in Columbia, South Carolina. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir for over 40 years and also a member of the Charleston Choral Society. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Men, Fleet Reserve Chapter 50 and American Legion Post 0179. He is survived by his three children and their spouses; a son: Donald G. Kinne, III and his wife, Linda of Charleston and two daughters: Kim Kinne-Ryan and her husband, Jim of Jasper, Georgia, Marla Kinne Juliano and her husband, Jay of McCalla, Alabama. Three grandsons: Taylor Michael Ryan of Jasper, Ga, Donald Nelson Kinne of Charleston, South Carolina and Scott Howard Taylor of Hollywood, South Carolina and his wife Melissa. Two great grandsons: Kyle James Taylor and Austin Scott Taylor of Hollywood, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Angel Fund c/o Wellstar Foundation, 2000 South Park Place, Suite 202, Atlanta, Georgia 30339. His family would like to thank his caregivers at Tranquility and Kennestone Hospital for providing such unselfish care and support during his final days. Don Kinne will always be remembered as an incredible dancer with his wife, Eloise, an avid sports fan, a faithful man of God but mostly as a loving husband, father, uncle and Grandpa.
