Lt. Col. Albert B. (A.B.) Parsons, Jr., USAF (Retired), went home to be with His Lord and Savior on July 12, 2012, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born on January 16, 1928 in Spartanburg, S.C., he was a graduate of Edmunds High School, Sumter, S.C., in 1944, the Citadel in 1947 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky in 1950. He served as Baptist Campus Minister at Clemson University and Auburn University, Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church, Charleston, S.C. prior to entering the USAF. Lt. Col. Parsons served in the US Air Force for 25 years. He retired in 1977 having served in Washington state, Newfoundland, Delaware, Korea, Florida, the Panama Canal Zone, North Dakota and Ohio. He later served as Pastor at Plum Branch Baptist Church and Interim Pastor of Coronaca Baptist Church and Jordan Memorial Baptist Church. He was a kind, loving man with a heart for God, his family, friends and all people. Chaplain Parsons married Dorothy Mae Long of Greenwood in 1953. She predeceased him in 2004. He is survived by his two daughters, Elaine Parsons Stanford and husband Dr. Alan Duke Stanford of Leesburg, Virginia and Gayle Parsons Kaiser and husband Mark Austin Kaiser of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Sarah Stanford Mire, Irvine, California ( husband Jason Mire), Christopher Duke Stanford, Leesburg, VA, (wife Kristen), Alisann Elaine Kaiser and Michael Austin Kaiser of Arlington, Texas and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Andrew Mire and Katharine Grace Mire of Irvine, California and Aiden Duke Stanford of Leesburg, Virginia; a sister, Emily Pendleton of Pinson, Alabama, a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Chiles and a brother-in-law, Carson Rush, both of Greenwood. Visitation and viewing will be held at Blyth Funeral Home on Monday, July 16th from 6 to 8pm. A celebration of life will be conducted on Tuesday, July 17th at the North Side Baptist Church Chapel in Greenwood at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Alan Stanford and Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating. A family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Oakbrook Memorial Park prior to the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the building fund of North Side Baptist Church, 409 W.
