Col. T. Edison Yon, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.) of Summerville, entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 9, 2012, Col. T. Edison Yon, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.), husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Venning Yon. Residence, Summerville, SC. The relatives and friends of Col. and Mrs. T. Edison Yon are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Bethany Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at Stuhr’s Downtown Chapel Monday between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Col. Yon was born November 6, 1920 in Wagener, South Carolina, a son of the late Wilbert Harvey Yon and the late Leila Brown Yon. Edison received his bachelor’s degree from The College of Charleston and his master’s degree from The Citadel. He was a World War II Army veteran, a Staff Assistant for the U.S. Army Reserves and a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army. Col. Yon was a member of the Washington Light Infantry, Sumter Guards and an honorary member of The German Friendly Society. He is survived by his wife of Summerville; 2 sons, Thomas E. Yon, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Dr. Luther M. Yon of Charleston; 6 grandchildren, Lorann, Brian, Eric, Rebecca, Leah and James; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 step-daughters, Carol T. Wood (Marvin) of North Charleston, Janice T. Moniz of Johns Island and Gayle T. Hall of North Charleston; a step-son, Alfred D. Thompson, Jr. (Ginny) of Hollywood; 9 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
