Pat Barney, 78, Brookfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Grand River Health Care, Chillicothe. Funeral services will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield. Memorials to the Brookfield Public Library may be left at or mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, Mo. 64628. Pat O’Brian was born September 3, 1933, in Parma, son of Ray and Grayce (Owen) Barney. He married Genevieve Balke on July 4, 1959, in Trinity Evangelical Luther Church, Cole Camp. Pat graduated in 1951 from Parma High School and served in the US Army from 1953 until 1955. In 1958, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from the Citadel, Charleston, S.C. After graduation he taught physics at the University of Missouri-Rolla as a graduate assistant. He worked for Wilcox Electric Company, Kansas City, as a Design Engineer from 1959 until 1969. While living in Kansas City he attended law school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 1964 until 1967. He and his wife moved to Brookfield in 1969 where he was manager of L.T. York Pharmaceutical Company. In 1971, he founded the Adept Manufacturing, Brookfield, he owned the company for several years. In 1982, he bought Hauser Electric Company, Brookfield, and owned the company until his retirement in 1989. He attended First Christian Church, Brookfield, where he had taught Sunday School for several years. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve, of the home; three daughters, Janet Varnedoe, Brookfield, Susan Francis, Kansas City, and Sandra Kimball, Holualoa, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Maureen and Ruth Francis and David Kimball; and one brother, Robert Barney, Anaheim, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William and James Barney. Tags: 1955
