William Elliott Cuttino, Jr. (called Billy and Bill most of his life), 87 years old, from Orangeburg, SC died Thursday, December 22, 2011 after an extended illness. Born June 22, 1924, to William Elliott Cuttino, Sr. and Jennie Sue Way Cuttino in Orangeburg, SC. His brother, Laurence Charles Cuttino, and sister, Sarah Cuttino Wofford, predeceased him. He attended Orangeburg Public Schools. While in high school he worked in his father’s men’s clothing store. He graduated from the Citadel in 1942 and later attended Washington and Lee College. His attendance at the Citadel was interrupted for two years by service in the U.S. Army Air Corp during the latter part of World War II. He co-owned Harley and Cuttino Insurance and Real Estate for over forty years and later worked with William Bryant Insurance until he retired. During his lifetime he had a passion for family, golf, wood working, traveling, music, good food and good conversation. He enjoyed getting together with close friends, whether traveling, golfing, or sharing humorous tales. He lived in Orangeburg all of his life except for a brief stint in Roanoke, VA. As a young adult he loved to water ski and in middle age his interest turned to golf. He had a keen interest in his heritage with membership in the First Families of South Carolina and the French Huguenot Society. This interest lead to a family trek to his ancestral home off the coast of France in 1994. He was a long time member of the Lion Club and the American Legion. He grew up in and later raised his family in the First Baptist Church of Orangeburg. Recently he had joined the First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg. There he served as an elder and was involved in the Men’s Bible Study group. He had been a member of the Orangeburg Chamber of Commerce, serving a term as President. He had also been a member of the Orangeburg County Club. One of his most favorite associations was with a group of men who met for coffee every weekday morning. This group started at Gracie’s Cafe in the early 1960’s and continued moving to different locals until a few years ago. Survived by Luna, his wife of 63 years and his four children, Susan Cuttino Smith (Andy) of Fayetteville, NC, Lindsey Cuttino of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Cathey Cuttino (Glenn Sweigart) of Savannah, GA, and Elliott Cuttino of Orangeburg. He has four grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg. Bill will be remembered as an honest, Christian man who had a deep love for family and friends. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Tags: 1947
