Born in Columbia, October 29, 1919, he was a son of the late Arthur Hart Kohn Sr. and Ruth Gandy Kohn. Mr. Kohn attended the Columbia schools and graduated from The Citadel in 1941. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. Mr. Kohn was devoted to honoring his Lord, serving his church, and loving his family. He served multiple terms on church council and was elected chairman several times. He was a member of the Lutheran Men, serving in numerous capacities. He served on the Board of Trustees of Newberry College and was Chairman of the Board for five years. For his dedicated service, Newberry College awarded him all three of its highest awards: the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in 1969; the Alumni Association Outstanding Non-Alumnus Award in 1969; and the honorary Doctor of Laws Degree in 1974. Mr. Kohn rose from elevator boy to president of Carolina Life Insurance Company, a position he held until Carolina Life merged with Southland Life.
