Thomas Meek Faulkner, 97, of Smithville, Tenn., died March 1 at DeKalb Community Hospital. “”Great Tom”” was born November 27, 1913 to James Frank Faulkner and Mildred Whisonant in King’s Mountain Township, S.C. He was a product of the York County Public School System and graduated from The Citadel in 1935. After graduation he worked for the General Accounting Office and was in the Army Reserve until 1942 when he was activated. While in service he received an LLB from Georgetown Law School in 1945. He received an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1946 and entered government service until his retirement in 1973. Until he came to Smithville in 2007 he had lived in Northern Va., multiple overseas stations and Southern Calif. He is survived by his son, Charles T. Faulkner, M.D.; three grandchildren, Melissa Bennett, Brian Faulkner and Kathryn Welden; and three great-grandchildren, Charles Bennett, Olivia Bennett and Araxie Belle Welden. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sally; his second wife, Pauline; three brothers and a sister. According to his wishes, he was cremated and no immediate service is planned.
