Claude R. ‘Woody” Woodcock, 91, of Summerville, widower of Evelyn McCombs Woodcock and husband of Kit Woodcock, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at his residence. A celebration of his life will be held at a later in August 2011 at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association SC Chapter, Low Country Region, 2090 Executive Hall Road, #130, Charleston, SC 29407. Mr. Woodcock was born August 24, 1919, in West Pelzer, South Carolina, son of the late Liston Livingston Woodcock and Sarah Louise Shealy Woodcock. He was a graduate of Pelzer High School. He attended the Citadel, the University of South Carolina and Trident Technical College. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was in the Carolina Hall of Fame as Champion Boxer, coaching and officiating boxing for 70 years. He worked at the Naval Shipyard for over 15 years, was the Athletic Director for Cooper River Parks and Playground and retired as a Real Estate Agent in the Summerville area. He was a member of Knightsville United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are: two daughters and one son: Claudia Jean Horne of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kathryn Howell of Summerville and James Young of Leesville, South Carolina, five grandchildren: Michelle Lee, Robert Horne, Nichole Hern, Blaine Howell and Ivan Young, five great grandchildren, one brother and four sisters: Pete Woodcock of West Pelzer, South Carolina, Doris Lawless of West Pelzer, South Carolina, Pearl Schillings of Columbia, South Carolina, Bobbie Sue Faulkner of Mount Pleasant and Ruby Ann Tripp of Spartanburg, South Carolina A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jamesadyal.com ARRANGEMENTS BY JAMES A.
