A funeral service for Dr. Charles McAdams, 83, of Denton, Texas, is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011 at The Church of Saint David of Wales in Denton under the direction of DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton. Charles passed away on May 21, 2011. He was born in 1928 in Tulsa, Okla. to Georgia Haynes McAdams and Carl Armstrong McAdams. He graduated from The Citadel Military College in Charleston, S.C. in 1950. Charles was also a graduate of McGill University Medical School in Montreal, Canada in 1954. His internship and orthopedic residency were completed at Parkland Hospital and Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1960. Charles served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as Sandia Base orthopedic surgeon, Albuquerque, N.M. before coming to Denton, in 1963 to begin his 25 years of private practice. Charles enjoyed hunting, traveling, photography, golfing, and serving as the team physician for the Denton High School and North Texas State University football teams. He was accepted as Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1964 and had membership in various organizations including the Denton County Medical Society, Texas Society of Athletic Team Physicians, Texas Orthopedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery. Charles married Ruth Welsman McAdams in 1954 in Montreal, Canada. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Douglas Armstrong McAdams, DDS and wife Jeannie of Denton; Charles Gordon McAdams, MD and wife Leigh McAdams of Fort Worth; James Patrick McAdams of Denton; four grandchildren, Jack Houston McAdams, Georgia Leigh McAdams, William Nash McAdams, Alexandria Renee McAdams; and his sister Sharon Steinberg of Seguin. Visitation is planned for 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Tags: 1950
