Colonel Charles Richard Terry, 70, of Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away on December 9, 2010 at Gwinnett Medical Center after battling numerous health problems for the past ten years. Colonel Terry was born March 27, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia and was raised in East Point, Georgia. He graduated from the Georgia Military Academy, College Park, Georgia, and then entered The Citadel (Military College of South Carolina) in Charleston where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in June 1963. After graduating from The Citadel as a Distinguished Air Force graduate, he was commissioned June 1, 1963 in the United States Air Force as a Medical Service Corps officer. He attended in-residence development education at the Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia and Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. While attending Air War College, he also received a Master’s Degree from Troy State University. Colonel Terry retired from the Air Force on September 30, 1993 after a distinguished and highly decorated thirty-year military career. Richard was a good and generous man, wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother-in-law. He believed in family, God, duty, honor, and country and loved them all passionately. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Dianna Huff of East Point, Georgia; his son, Colonel Richard Neil Terry stationed in Washington, DC; his daughter, Leanda Terry; his granddaughters, Meghan, Caitlin, and Kaighan; and brother-in-law, Neil (Jeannie) Huff. A Memorial service will be held to celebrate his life Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 1PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
