Funeral service for William Andison Sipes II, 67, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, with burial at 4:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Lawn, SC. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2010, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Sipes died Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of Mary Ladd Younge and the late William Andison Sipes. A 1966 Citadel graduate, he received his master’s degree in education from the University of South Carolina. He taught in the South Carolina school system for 30 years and retired from Columbia High School with 17 years of service. He also retired from the Army Reserve with over 30 years of service. Upon retirement, he continued to work as a substitute teacher and serve his community. He was a member of Wesley Memorial UMC and the United Methodist Men. Surviving are his daughter, Elsie Sipes Montgomery and her husband, Reginald Van Montgomery Jr., of Columbia; son, Hiram Hill Sipes and his fiance, Rev. Jeri Katherine Warden, of Columbia; sister, Mary S. Vinnacombe of Seaville, N.J.; grandchildren, Reginald Van Montgomery III, Elizabeth Andison Ashe Montgomery and Virginia Leigh Montgomery; and extended family.
