Gerald J. Warshaw CHARLESTON – Entered into eternal rest the morning of Saturday, April 3, 2010, Gerald Jay Warshaw, husband of Harriet Koslow Warshaw. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Jay Warshaw are invited to attend the funeral service of the former, at the graveside Sunday, April 4, 2010, at two o’clock in Emanu-El Cemetery “Maryville” on Sycamore Road in West Ashley. Shiva will take place Wednesday through Friday at the Warshaw residence from three o’clock until eight o’clock. Jery was born on March 13, 1930, in Jersey City, NJ, the son of Morris Warshaw and Sylvia Isaacson Warshaw Bronson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Counter Intelligence. He graduated from Rutgers University and Brooklyn College of Pharmacy and was a retired Pharmacist. He started his career at Henry’s Cut Rate Drug Store on King Street, which was started by his father-in-law, Henry Koslow in 1935. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, he worked in chain retail pharmacies, including Harris Drugs, and then became Director of Pharmacy at Sea Island Comprehensive Health Care. Following his retirement from Sea Island, his favorite hobby was serving as a vacation relief pharmacist at several Charleston area pharmacies, including Piggly Wiggly, and most noteworthy, was the summer of 1997 working at Carr Drugs in Anchorage, Alaska. At the age of 68, Jery began a new career at the VA Pharmacy Mail Order Facility, where he spent the final 12 years of his career and life. During his spare time he enjoyed reading several books a week. He was a member of Synagogue Emanu-El, a life member of the Hebrew Benevolent Society, a member of the Synagogue Emanuel Men’s Club, a member of the Charleston Jewish Community Center, a life member of the Charleston Elks Lodge #242, member of Mariner Lodge #2 A.F.M., a member of the Citadel Alumni Association, a member of the Long Island University Alumni Association, past president of the Charleston Civic Ballet, a member of the Friends of the Charleston County Library, a Footlight Players volunteer, a Cooper River Bridge Run Participant & volunteer, a member of “ROMEO” Men’s Club, a member of the South Carolina and the Charleston Pharmaceutical Association and was a South Carolina Notary Public. He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; two sons: Maurice A. (Lynn) Warshaw of Tacoma, WA and David P. (Kathy) Warshaw of Charlotte, NC; one daughter: Sally Ann Warshaw (Bob) Weisman of Dublin, OH; one sister: Francine W. Wernick of West Orange, NJ; and six grandchildren.
