Harrison Scott Nesbit, died peacefully at home in Powhatan, Va. October 23, 2009. He was born January 29, 1920 in Norfolk, Va. to the late Cpt. Donald Wallace Nesbit, USN and Nancy May Pike Nesbit. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth King Chewning Nesbit; son, Clark Scott Nesbit and his wife, Patricia Miller Nesbit; daughter, Grace Nesbit Sloan and her husband, Freddy Leland Sloan; daughter, Katherine Nesbit Betsill and her husband, William Henry Betsill III; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary N. Hearn. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Wallace Nesbit Jr., ’40; Nancy Nesbit Hatch, and John Pike Nesbit, ’44; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Nesbit graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. and received a M.S. from Cornell University. He served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers in WWII in North Africa and Europe. He worked most of his career with Griffin Pipe in Lynchburg, Va. A memorial service will be held at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Interment private. Tags: 1940
