Howard W. Alton Jr., 72, of Rogers, AR died Sunday, September 6, 2009 in Fayetteville. He was born April 22, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Howard W. Alton, Sr., and Lorraine Busse Alton. Howard W. Alton had numerous interests throughout his life. As a banker for Arlington Park Racetrack in Chicago and with his partnerships in West Point Thoroughbreds, Howard was able to mesh his love for horses with his work. Later in life, Howard became an entrepreneur in the stock market. As much as Howard liked seeing his horse win by a nose, he also liked seeing his stock investments “cross the finish line.” Howard was also an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. No matter if it was basketball, baseball, or football, Howard was always there to cheer on his beloved Razorbacks…that is, of course, unless they were playing The Citadel. As a proud 1959 graduate of The Citadel, Howard’s love of the institution could not be superseded by even his Razorbacks. However, Howard did compensate for this bias by creating a scholarship for Arkansas students to attend The Citadel. Howard could find a friend wherever he went…even if they were meeting for the first time. It was as a community group leader at Fellowship Bible Church; however, that Howard found some of his dearest friends. Howard is survived by his wife Dana Alton of the home; two brothers Lewis Alton and wife Debbie of Traverse City, Michigan, Jeff Alton and wife Jessica of New York City, N.Y.; nieces and nephew; a stepdaughter Taryne Tovar and her husband George of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one stepson Brannon Dixon and his wife Meredith, of Louisville, Kentucky; one grandson Aidan Dixon of Syracuse, New York, and two granddaughters Peyton Dixon and Makenna Dixon, both of Louisville, Kentucky. Howard was preceded in death by his first wife Marietta V. Alton on April 5, 2004. A memorial service will be 10:00AM Friday September 11, 2009, in the Training Center Sanctuary of Fellowship Bible Church of Northwest Arkansas with Pastor Robert Cupp and Pastor Mickey Rapier officiating. Inurnment will be in Martin Cemetery near Larue, Arkansas at a later date. Memorials may be made in honor of Howard W. Alton to the Prostate Cancer Research Institute, 5777 W.
