John Arthur Tuten, Jr., 81, a retired banker and husband of Rebecca Hooper Tuten of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009. The relatives and friends of Arthur Tuten are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Christ Episcopal Church, Mt. Pleasant at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Mr. Tuten was born January 2, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Arthur Tuten, Sr. and Ethel Kroeg Tuten. He was a graduate of The High School of Charleston and was a 1947 graduate of The Citadel. Mr. Tuten was a founder of The Brigadier Club. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he had served as treasurer and as chairman of the cemetery committee. He had also served on the vestries of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Mr. Tuten was a member of The St. Andrew’s Society, The German Friendly Society, The Washington Light Infantry and The Palmetto Guard Society. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Rebecca Hooper Tuten, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Anne Tuten Whittemore and her husband, Robert, of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Rebecca Tuten Schultz and her husband, Sean, of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Marguerite T. Pound and her husband, William, of Macon, GA and Charlotte T. Butler and her husband, O’Neal, of Beech Island, SC. Also surviving are his five beloved grandchildren, John, Hooper and Andrew Schultz, and Emma and Alex Whittemore, as well as seven nieces and nephews.
