Fleming Overby “Fats” Jeffress, 82, of Kinston, N.C., died Sunday May 15, 2005, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C. Mr. Jeffress was a lifelong resident of Kinston. He was an avid Kinston Indians Fan, a retired tobacconist and was currently working with the Lenoir County Tax Office. He attended The Citadel, he was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend A. Michael Singer officiating. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Grant Jeffress of the home a son, Fleming O. Jeffress Jr. of Kinston, N.C. two daughters, Miss Lea Jeffress of Kinston, N.C., and Mrs. Martha Jeffress Moore and husband, John, of Greenville, N.C. a special companion, “”Snuggles”” nieces and nephews, Della Jeffress Kirkland of Gastonia, N.C., John L. Jeffress Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cecil Wooten III of Chapel Hill, N.C., Linda Jeffress Tucker of Pinehurst, N.C., Mary Jeffress Wright of Rocky Mount, N.C., Florence Jeffress Dunn of Wilmington, N.C., and Eugene Edwards of Goldsboro, N.C. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home and other times at their home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree, Kinston, NC 28501.
