George B. Clarke, 78, of Savannah, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Candler General Hospital. He was born in Savannah, Ga., and was preceded in death by his parents, William Bordley Clarke, Sr., and Elizabeth Epting Clarke. He was a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and had also done Post Graduate work at the University of Georgia, where he served as a Professor while pursuing his Degree. He was a veteran, having served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Air Force, a member of Solomon’s Lodge # 1, F. & A.M’s, the Scottish Rite Consistory – Valley of Savannah, Alee Shrine Temple, and the Loyal Order of the Jesters, and a former member of the Savannah Chapter, American Guild of Organists. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he had formerly served on various committees. He was the owner of Clarke Plumbing Company, and had formerly worked in Sales for both Hercules Chemical Company and Atlas Chemical Company in New Jersey & New York. George loved boating, sailing, woodworking, repairing cars, and enjoyed helping his brother maintain and repair pipe organs. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Reynolds Clarke, of Savannah, Ga; 3 daughters, Lynda Clarke Mock (Barry), Carolyn Clarke Robert (Donald), and Laura Clarke; brother, William B. Clarke, Jr., grandchildren, Clarke & Elizabeth Wagner, Nicholas & George Mock, and Alexander Eck. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Mr. Clarke will be taken to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 8:30 a.m. Saturday to lie in state. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Peter Hartmann, officiating. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery, with Military Honors, and Masonic Services by Solomon’s Lodge # 1, F. & A.M’s.
