H. C. “Buddy” Roe Jr., 84, of Hendersonville, NC, entered into eternal rest, Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. He was the son of the late Herman Clyde Roe, Sr. and Anna Graham Roe and was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory Oliver Roe, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Quarterman. He was a decorated US Army veteran of WWII, and graduated with a degree in civil engineering from the Citadel, in Charleston, SC, in 1950. Throughout his life, he worked in the paper industry in the southeast, retiring to enjoy pleasurable pursuits in 1993. He remained a lifelong fan of the Citadel Bulldogs and was proud to see his son, Patrick, graduate from there in 1981. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, volunteered at Interfaith Ministry, assisted knee replacement patients with their rehabilitation goals at Pardee Hospital. He was a member of the Hendersonville Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf. In his retirement years, golf became a sufficient avocation for him that he turned to making custom golf clubs for friends and family. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Tillie Oliver Roe, a son, Michael Patrick Roe and wife, Gretchen (Heyn) Roe of Severna Park, MD; three daughters, Katherine Elizabeth Roe of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Debbie Roe-Dixon and husband, Louis, of Cincinnati, OH and Ceil Roe Phillips and husband, Paul, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two brothers, James Graham Roe of Greenville, SC and Robert Kenton Roe of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren, Kaely Linker and husband Chris, Lucas, Shelby, Callan, Duncan and Eoghan and many nieces and nephews. Buddy anticipated the arrival of his first great grandchild in September of this year. A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. The family will welcome friends at a reception immediately following the service in the church’s St. Francis Hall. Condolence cards may be sent to the family at www.jacksonfuneralservice-.com.
