Lt. Col. John Crawford Ellerbe III, USAF, Ret., 57, loving husband and father died February 28. Born in Joliet, Illinois, he was the son of the late Capt. John C. Ellerbe, Jr. and Louise Milne Ellerbe of Greenwood, South Carolina. He was a distinguished AF ROTC graduate of The Citadel and completed his Master’s Degree at Webster University in 1977. Lt. Col. Ellerbe was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1995. He served tours of duty in Kansas, Okinawa, Colorado, Virginia, and Germany. His last Air Force assignment was at the Pentagon. From 1995 until the present he worked at Human Resources Technologies, Inc in Alexandria, VA as the Director of Training and Technical Support. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Jean: a daughter, Jennifer Canady Ellerbe of Arlington, Virginia: a son, 2nd Lt. John C. Ellerbe, IV currently assigned to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri: two brothers, Dwight Ellerbe of Anchorage, Alaska, and Thomas Ellerbe of Greenwood, South Carolina: a sister, Jeanne Dunn of Beaufort, South Carolina. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7 at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, 13900 Church Hill Drive, Woodbridge, Virginia, with the Rev. Neal Brown officiating. A celebration of John’s life for his family and friends will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Margaret’s Anglican Church (Music Fund) or a charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers. Tags: 1973
